We then use an ultrasonic scaler, which emits a sonic vibration to remove tartar deposits from around and below the gum line. After a scaling procedure, we smooth the exposed surfaces of a tooth’s root to promote healing; then we apply Arestin, an antibiotic powder that adheres to infected gum tissue.
